The diaphragm plays a vital role in the function of the body’s deep stabilising muscles and the relaxation of the nervous system. When breathing becomes restricted or inefficient, the body functions less effectively and muscular tension can increase. Muscle Stretching & Breathing Therapy combines diaphragmatic breathing with targeted stretching exercises to promote relaxation, improve flexibility and enhance overall wellbeing.
The session begins with diaphragmatic breathing exercises, during which the diaphragm and primary breathing muscles are actively engaged. This breathing technique helps the body use oxygen more efficiently, reduces tension, calms the nervous system and supports overall physical balance. It may also help slow the breathing rate, reduce heart rate, support healthy blood pressure regulation, promote normal metabolism and digestion, improve exercise tolerance, strengthen the abdominal muscles, enhance sleep quality and contribute to emotional wellbeing.
The breathing exercises are followed by guided muscle stretching, designed to improve flexibility, increase range of motion and make everyday movement easier and more comfortable. Regular stretching also supports good posture, helps reduce muscular tension, promotes recovery after physical activity and may help lower the risk of back discomfort.
